this december, we have two wonderful artists in our winter intensive pod (that’s ‘i-pod’ to you): ayan bihi, a filmmaker, photographer, painter and pursuer of fascinating images; and patricia parsons, a former pod member recently returned from british columbia, where she participated in the east vancouver culture crawl and sold (almost) all of her paintings. sunday december 13th, we had montréal performance legend and articule staff member michelle lacombe, performing her piece ’severings: things to leave behind’. it was an intense and moving experience, and we’ll have photos posted soon enough.

an artist, a photographer and a jeweler, julie webb (www.juliewebb.etsy.com) displays photo blocks, cards, calendars and pendants. unique and uniquely elegant, these items are printed from her work in canada, new york and europe.
svea vikander (www.sveavikander.blogspot.com) makes mixed-media abstract pieces, fine-art photography and fused glass pieces. she will be presenting work from vika, her line of high-quality wearable glass art pendants and, hopefully, slices of freshly baked whole-wheat bread.
heather utah of ilhu industries (www.ilhu.wordpress.com) makes textile and fibre art – miscellaneous art objects that are nice to touch, for lovers of the industrial evolution. dude, check out the octobunnies.
what were you doing with your time when you were sixteen? hillary ting has started her own company, little ting, to finance her trip to australia with AFS Interculture Canada. she sells the cutest notebooks.
jérémié pare-julien (www.jerms.etsy.com) is a ceramics artist with an eye for detail that you wouldn’t expect from a varsity rugby player, but makes sense when you figure out she’s doing her master’s in art history, too. she makes delicate porcelain magnets, brooches and other jewelery.
joanne madley (www.lecantin.com/joanne) presents her intricate intaglio and serigraph prints on paper. a vancouver-born artist, joanne is building her nest in montreal, where she has quickly become known for her compelling and lovingly-rendered work.
from fluffy feather earrings to Dali-inspired vinyl bowls, jessica klein and beth cross are local hobo (localhobo@gmail.com). they make outstanding art and accessories from found and neglected objects.
ber lazarus (www.berlazarus.ca), the accomplished sculptor and installation artist, creates holiday chimes (otherworldly mobiles) from found and re-modelled metal pieces; they make a sound sweeter than the prettiest chorus of hand-crafted angels could ever hope to croon. he is also the creator of colourful collage abstracts, photographs and cards.
melanie hadida is a woman with a mission and an eye for the visual. a presenter of surface tension: living a daily reality of injustice, melanie is back again with the fine-art photography gift cards that got snapped up at her show. images of women, children, peaceful resistance and other scenes of beauty.
lindsey fong of moko (lannefong@gmail.com) puts to rest the fear that all recycled and re-made clothing will look like, well, recycled and re-made clothing. her mittens, necklaces, anklets and scarves are fantastically well-crafted accessories, suitable for the indie-rock-sustainable princess in your life.
ayan bihi (www.ayanbihi.webs.com/)is a montreal-based artist whose work in photography, film, painting and drawing will send her to sweden’s konstfack school for her master’s next september. a studio béluga i-pod (winter intensive) artist, she presents her drawings and paintings on fine art gift cards, available individually or in sets of three.
