the st. henri studio béluga was founded in january 2009 by svea and tessa vikander; participants include alex bachmeyer (painting, drawing, biology, urban gardening – montreal and vancouver), matt james (illustration, painting, performance – montreal and toronto), patricia parsons (painting, mixed-media, business – montreal and vancouver), natalie robison (film, dance, yoga – montreal and vancouver), milena vigliotta (singing/song-writing, dance, broadcast radio – toronto), kara springer (industrial and fashion design, photography – paris and toronto), tammy whitten (psyche-studies, interior design, housing – toronto), anne maftei (political science, pop-theory – paris and vancouver), olivia dunbar (street art, drawing, curating – montreal and vancouver), natalia lebedinskaia (curating, painting, community networking – montreal, victoria and moscow), anastasia hare (curating, painting, photography – montreal and toronto), rachel crawford (book-making, silk-screening, textiles – montreal and guelph) and kristal kordich-crandall (painting, drawing, curating – montreal and victoria).

we began with weekly meditation, yoga and painting groups. now we’re congregating as the summer pod — a 6-week workshop and exhibition. wanna see our work? check out the previews and artist bios. we’re also accepting applications for the next pod and are in the midst of finalizing the january workshop series.

november was a busy month, with katherine peacock’s coal choir using the studio to rehearse Olivia, a musical eulogy; melanie hadida and justin shoub showcasing their photographs of peaceful resistance to injustice in surface tension, and chris galanis hosting the second maybe dick youtube film festival.
